It is not meant to handle the filtration of large amounts of chemicals which is different then the VOC that you would experience from say a new carpet that is off gassing. After your house or room has been properly ventilated and the paint has dried you are safe to use this item without voiding it's warranty. They just don't want you using it in the room while your painting or immediately after when there is a high concentration in the room.
