The quilt is a thick blanket and the Duvet (or Duvet Cover) is like a sleeping bag made out of sheets that you put over your comforter.

Can this be used as a winter comforter (is it the same weight)?
Q:
I don't mean on top of a comforter; I mean on top of a sheet and perhaps a blanket and that's it, in the winter, for satisfactory warmth.

If you live someplace that has snow and drops below freezing in the winter I would not recommend this as a comforter. It is meant to be used more so as a blanket.
