I have a small automatic water from which my horses and dogs drink. I would like to use the dunks. In addition to knowing if they are safe I would also like to know if they are hazardous when eaten.

Its not recommended for pools that are in use. They are great for when they are partially drained between seasons. But it causes moderate eye irritation in humans. So you should avoid contact with eyes. For more information search for Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis that is the active ingredient.
It can last 30 days for 100 sq feet of water, so in a small bird bath of what, 1-2 sq feet of water, exposed to less water would it last considerably longer, or is the release rate going to remain the same?
