It can. When the ball is in the wheel base it takes "balance" out of the equation.

Question
How high up does this chair put you?
Does this chair (with the ball) put you any higher up than a regular chair?
That's what I'm looking for. My desk is too high. I want a chair that will put me up higher than I am now.

This chair, as designed, won't help you. But if you put a 65cm ball in place of the original (though you'll have to take out the back support from the frame). I had the same problem and solved it with the bigger ball.

I am 4'10" and I have this chair at work and I love it. First chair that I have not had to sit on the edge to reach the floor.

It should, it's designed for people 5'0" to 5'11" tall. One way to tell is to stack something 22 inches high and sit on it to see if your hip and knee alignment feels comfortable.

The chair comes with a 52 cm ball. We don't recommend using another size ball with the chair frame.

answer 2
The ball that comes with the chair is 52cm, but the balls sold separately are 55cm, 65cm and 75cm, according to the hard copy catalog. I was going to order a chair until I learned replacement plugs are sold for these balls. Anyone know WHY I need replacement plugs? I HATE buying something that needs replacement parts, even cheap ones :(

My husband is 6'1" & about 215 & he loves this chair. Height restrictions are misleading anyway, as total height isn't as relevant here as leg length & torso length. If your inseam is 34" or less, you'll probably be fine.

Question
Would the balance ball chair still be effective if I used a small footstool to bring my (very) short legs up so my knees are level with my hips?
I am 5'7", but my legs are very short - I would need the seat height to be no more than 18".
Would it be too hard to maintain correct posture if I used an office-type footstool?

The assistance you need is stronger hands. I used to build sets so I am no stranger to construction and tools but I had to get one of the guys here in the office to snap my wheels into the base. You can also cover the wheels and gently tap on them with a mallet if you can not get them in by hand.

We warranty the whole chair for the first year. However we do not cover the ball against non defective issues such as your cat, or your child puncturing the ball with something pointy. In the case that your ball is some how damaged by accident you can purchase a replacement ball for the chair.

Question
How are core muscles being used if the ball sits on a platform with a stabilizer bar?
I always thought the core muscles were engaged because one had to focus on 'balancing' the ball while performing exercises.

You wont get as much of core exercise with the chair because you are taking the balancing aspect out of the ball equation. However because the ball forces you to sit straight up you are having to use your core to support yourself. The major benefit of this chair is the proper back support more than the core workout.
